Biography:
Des Moines native CPT Harry Richard Crumley was a pilot in the Air Force. He flew large C-123 transport planes in and out of South Vietnam. He was killed on January 25, 1966 when his aircraft mysteriously crashed into a mountainside near An Khe. The accident took place on a rainy day and later investigations indicated there was a fire onboard before the crash. Four crewman, including CPT Crumley, and 42 passengers all died in the accident. CPT Crumley had served in the Air Force for over eight years. He was 29 years old and left behind a wife and three sons. His body was buried at the Golden Gate National Cemetery in California.
