Biography:
Peter Paul Huk was born in Germany but raised in Cedar Rapids. Huk was a 1967 graduate of Regis Catholic High School and a 1969 graduate of Burlington Community College. Prior to being drafted by the Army he worked at Sears in Cedar Rapids. He was sent to Vietnam in June 1970 and served with the 101st Airborne Division as an infantryman. The young Corporal was killed within the first three weeks in Vietnam during what would later be named the Battle of Fire Support Base Ripcord. CPL Huk was killed by an enemy mortar attack while stationed in a defensive position on Hill 805 near Firebase Ripcord. He was 20 years old at the time of his death and his body was buried at Saint John’s Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
