Biography:
Robert Douglas King was raised in Marshalltown and served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. He worked as an Intercept Equipment Repair Technician in the 138th Aviation Company, a part of the Army Security Agency. Warrant Officer King deployed to South Vietnam in December 1966 after serving over 15 years in the American armed forces. Approximately one year into his deployment WO King was killed during a non-hostile plane crash in the Quang Nam Province. He was aboard a U-6A fixed wing aircraft when it crashed in the Elephant Valley. He was 39 years old at the time of his death. King left behind a wife, two daughters, and a son. His remains were buried at the Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA.
