Biography:
Akke Jans Timmer Jr. of Sheldon was a member of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion, 133rd Infantry, Iowa National Guard. He completed training at Fort Carson, CO before beginning his tour in Vietnam on May 21, 1969. SP4 Timmer served in the A Shau Valley and was attached to the 101st Airborne Division. He had only been in Vietnam for about three months when he died on August 6, 1969 while on a combat operation near Danang. His body was buried at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
