Biography:
Rural Dorchester native Alan Ray Bresnahan graduated from high school in Waukon. After school, he moved to Waterloo where he worked until he was drafted by the Army in July 1968. PFC Bresnahan was sent to Southeast Asia in December 1968 and was assigned to the 1st Infantry Division, or Big Red 1. He was killed on June 12, 1969 during a firefight with the enemy in the Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam. He received multiple fatal fragmentation wounds. Bresnahan was posthumously promoted to Corporal. The 20-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Saint Mary’s Cemetery in the Hanover Township.
