Biography:
Anthony Earl Peterson was born in San Diego, CA before moving to Iowa. He was a 1968 graduate of Mason City High School. After graduation Peterson joined the Army and got married. He was sent to Vietnam on June 20, 1969; 13 days later he was killed. PFC Peterson was serving with the 199th Infantry Brigade as an infantryman. On July 3, 1969, while on patrol, PFC Peterson’s unit came across a Viet Cong camp. He was killed from multiple fragmentation wounds. A funeral service was held at Trinity Lutheran Church and his body was buried at Elmwood – Saint Joseph Cemetery, both in Mason City. Peterson was 19 years old at the time of his death and left behind a wife and young son.
