Biography:
Armand Ervin Ristinen grew up in Des Moines County and graduated from Fort Madison High School. Later he attended Burlington Junior College and Northeast Missouri State College. Ristinen was drafted by the Army in November 1968 and started his tour in December 1969. SSGT Ristinen served as an infantryman with the 173rd Airborne. He was killed on April 25, 1970 from an enemy booby trap. A funeral service was held for the 22-year-old at the Elliott-Lunning Chapel and his body was buried at the Memorial Park Cemetery, both in Burlington. Ristinen left behind a wife and a young daughter.
