Biography:
Arnold Edwin Henry Lohse was a 1964 graduate of Everly High School. He enlisted in the Navy shortly after high school. He was assigned to the USS <i>Forrestal</i> as an Aviation Fire Control Technician (Fire Control). On July 29, 1967 while operating off the coast of Vietnam a rocket accidently fired from a F-4 Phantom parked on the flight deck of the <i>Forrestal</i>. The detonation started a series of explosions that engulfed the aircraft carrier in flames. In total 134 sailors lost their lives during the accident. The 21-year-old Lohse’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Lone Tree Cemetery in Everly.
