Bruce Jerome Fedler

Bruce Jerome Fedler was born in Fort Madison and graduated from Central Community High School in Lee County. He joined the Army the August after graduation and completed Ranger training at Fort Benning, GA where he earned the prestigious Green Beret. SGT Fedler started a twelve month tour in Vietnam in July 1968 with the 1st Air Cavalry Division based in An Khe. A couple months into his deployment SGT Fedler was killed by enemy small arms fire while participating in Operation Comanche Falls on September 17, 1968. Posthumously, SGT Fedler was awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star. The 19-year-old’s body was buried at the Oakland Cemetery in Fort Madison.
