Biography:
Bruce William Wright was born in Mount Pleasant and moved with his family to Springfield, IL. He graduated from Springfield High School before attending Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant. Wright was drafted by the Army in April 1969 and he was sent to Vietnam in November of the same year. SP4 Wright was killed on September 1, 1970 when his rifle reconnaissance team encountered the enemy. His body was seen being taken away by enemy forces. Two weeks later his remains were recovered and returned to Iowa. Wright was 21 years old at the time of his death. His parents lived in West Des Moines and buried his body at the North Walker Cemetery outside of Burlington.
