Biography:
Richland native Bryan Lee Wilson was educated at Saint Mary’s grade school in Mallard and at Emmetsburg Catholic High School. He graduated school in the class of 1965. He briefly attended Emmetsburg Community College before he enlisted in the Army in August 1966. Wilson completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood before he was sent to Vietnam in July 1967. After completing one tour from 1967 to 1968, he started a second tour in Vietnam in August 1968. Staff Sergeant Wilson served as a combat engineer in the 4th Infantry Division. He was killed on November 3, 1968 while on a combat mission. He sustained fatal gunshot wounds inflicted by enemy fire. Wilson was 21 years old at the time of his death and left behind a fiancé. The young Iowan was buried at Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Mallard.
