Biography:
Byron Dean McQuinn was born in Omaha but grew up across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa. While in high school McQuinn’s older brother Leonard was killed in Vietnam. The younger McQuinn joined the Army and was sent to South Vietnam in September 1968. He served as an infantryman with Alpha Company of the 50th Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade. He was killed on February 24, 1969 by sniper fire while in the Binh Dinh Province. McQuinn was posthumously promoted to corporal. He was 19 years old at the time of his death. His parents buried their second son in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
