Biography:
Carroll Rodney Meier grew up in rural Harrison County in the town of Logan. He was drafted by the Army and trained as an infantryman. Meier was sent to South Vietnam in February 1968 and was assigned to the 25th Infantry Division. On May 28, 1968, while participating in a combat operation, Meier was killed in action. He sustained multiple fatal small arms wounds inflicted by the enemy. He was posthumously promoted to Corporal. The 20-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Valley View Cemetery in Persia.
