Biography:
Charles Claude Miller grew up in Mount Pleasant. He was educated at Mount Pleasant High School, where he graduated in the class of 1963. He continued his education at Iowa State University and then at Iowa Wesleyan. He had one year of college left, which he intended to finish upon leaving the service. Miller enlisted in the Marine Corps in May of 1966 and was sent to South Vietnam in October of 1967. LCPL Miller served as a field radio operator with the 3rd Marine Division. On April 4, 1968 LCPL Miller was killed during Operation Pegasus. He sustained multiple fragmentation wounds to the body while fighting on Hill 471, south of Khe Sanh. The 23-year-old’s body was returned to the United States and buried at the Greenhill Cemetery in Saint Peter, MN.
