Biography:
Rural Kellerton native Charles Edward Sissel was attending Grand Valley Community High School when he enlisted in the Army in February 1964. He received a high school diploma later while in the military. PFC Sissel trained as an infantryman and was sent to Vietnam in June 1965 with the 1st Infantry Division. He was killed on December 29, 1965 from multiple fragmentation wounds to the abdomen. He was 19 years old at the time of his death and he left behind a wife. A funeral service was held at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and he was buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery, both in Mount Ayr.
