Biography:
Charles E. Johnson grew up in Mapleton in Monona County. After high school he entered the Army and went to Vietnam in 1969. He served with the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry in Binh Long Province. His death on December 7, 1969 came from hostile fire. He was married and was buried in Center Cemetery in Castana, Iowa.
