Charles Richard Smidstra

Charles Richard Smidstra was born on November 26, 1947. He was drafted into the Army and started his tour of duty on October 5, 1968. SP4 Smidstra was in a helicopter that was returning from a supply mission when the helicopter crashed killing all members on board. SP4 Smidstra was missing for 4 days before his remains were recovered on October 6, 1968. He was buried in River View Cemetery in Rock Rapids. He was 20 years old when he was killed.
