Biography:
Charles Ricky Bartholomew was born in New Jersey and moved a lot as his father served in the military. For a time as a youth he lived with his maternal grandparents in Truro, Madison County, IA. He graduated from Interstate 35 High School in Truro in the class of 1964. As a young man he participated on his high school cheer squad. Bartholomew joined the Navy and trained as a dental technician. When Bartholomew was sent to South Vietnam he was assigned to a Marine unit in the 3rd Marine Division. He died on March 21, 1968 from a non-hostile wound inflicted by an accidental discharge of his M14 rifle. He was 21 years old at the time of his death. The young Iowan’s body was returned to the United States and buried at the Ebenezer Cemetery in East Peru, IA.
