Biography:
Charles W. Johnston Junior grew up in Des Moines. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps and arrived in Vietnam in late 1966. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 26th Marines based in Quang Tri Province. In mid-May his unit engaged a large force of North Vietnamese regulars near Con Thien. Corporal Johnston was killed by hostile fire. He was married and was buried in Laurel Hills Cemetery in Des Moines.
