Biography:
Cordell “Corky” Bruce Rogers was born in Newark, NJ and married a Remsen woman in 1962. He attended Northwestern College where he was the co-captain of the football team and baseball player. He also worked part-time at Cambler Motor and Phillips “GG” Station. Rogers joined the Army and received his commission at Fort Benning, GA. He made the Army his career and was promoted from Second Lieutenant to Captain. While serving his second tour in Vietnam he was critically injured when he suffered wounds from a hostile rocket propelled grenade. He was transferred to a hospital in Japan where he died from his injuries two weeks later on May 27. A full military funeral was held at the Evangelical Lutheran Church and his body was buried at Remsen Cemetery.
