Biography:
Cyril Jeffrey Westly grew up near Manly in rural Worth County. He attended the North Central School district and joined the Navy at the age of 17. He was serving as a hospital Corpsman (HN) when he was sent to Vietnam in the summer of 1966. HN Westly was assigned to the 1st Marine Division near Chu Lai, South Vietnam. On March 26, 1967 HN Westly’s unit was ambushed by enemy forces while on patrol. HN Westly was killed by an explosive device during the incident along with 8 other Marines. He was 19 years old at the time of his death and his body was buried in the Manly Cemetery.
