Biography:
Dallas Nihsen grew up on a farm between Charter Oak and the small community of Ricketts. After graduating from Charter Oak-Ute High School, he joined the Army. He was part of the 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry. His first tour in Vietnam started in January 1971. On his second tour he was killed while serving as a door gunner on a UH-1 Huey Helicopter extracting ARVN forces out of a hot landing zone in Kontum Province. On April 15th he was struck by a bullet that ricocheted inside the helicopter cabin. He was the only casualty. Sergeant Nihsen was buried in Morgan Cemetery in Schleswig.
