Biography:
Daniel Lee Jurgensen was born in Oelwein in 1949. He was raised in Waterloo and graduated West High School in 1968. He worked at Hawkeye Steel Products Co. before joining the Marine Corps in October 1968. In July 1969 PFC Jurgensen arrived in Southeast Asia and was stationed in the northern I Corps of South Vietnam. PFC Jurgensen died of gunshot wounds from hostile small arms fire outside of Danang on November 14, 1969. His remains were returned to Waterloo and were buried at the Garden of Memories.
