Danny Joe Fries

Danny Joe Fries of Council Bluffs was drafted into the Army and began his tour in Vietnam on February 19, 1970. He served as a medic with the 101st Airborne Division. PFC Fries was fatally wounded on July 22, 1970 when he was hit by enemy mortar fire near Thua Thien. His body was buried at Ridgewood Cemetery in Council Bluffs. The 20-year-old posthumously promoted to corporal and he left behind a young wife.
