Biography:
Daryl Lee Kadous grew up in Sibley area and graduated from high school in 1963. After attending the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, he joined the Army and was assigned to the 2nd Infantry, 1st Infantry Division. He arrived in Vietnam on April 10, 1966. In a letter home, he told his parents he was an ammo bearer and that it was very hot. He asked for some 3 in 1 oil for his weapon and fizzies to put in the water that tasted terrible from all the chemicals in it. On April 26, 1966 he helped rescue a fellow Iowan from New London who had been wounded. Three days later he was killed while on patrol. PFC Kadous was the first person from Osceola County killed in Vietnam. He was buried in the Sibley Cemetery.
