David Alan Fisch

David Alan Fisch was born in Le Mars and went to Saint Mary’s High School in Remsen. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE before enlisting in the Marine Corps on May 19, 1965. LCPL Fisch began his tour in Vietnam as an automatic rifleman in October 1966. He was fatally shot in the head by hostile fire when he tried to save his wounded comrade. The incident occurred while engaged in battle near Phu Loc on May 16, 1967. A funeral service and burial for LCPL Fisch took place at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and Cemetery in Remsen. He was the first fatality of the Vietnam War from Remsen.
