Biography:
David Allen Fleskes was born and raised in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Saint Edmond’s High School in 1966. After high school, he attended Iowa Central Community College and worked at Hakes Warehouse both in Fort Dodge. Fleskes joined the Navy in 1967 and finished Basic Training at Great Lakes Naval Station, earning the rank of Constructionman. CM Fleskes began his service with the Third Naval Brigade on April 15, 1968. On August 23, 1968, CM Fleskes was killed during a rocket attack on Camp Haskins near Danang City, South Vietnam. He had been due to return to the United States five weeks later. His funeral mass was held on September 9, 1968 at Corpus Christi Church in Fort Dodge. The sixth Fort Dodge native to die in Vietnam, CM Fleskes’ body was buried at Corpus Christi Cemetery.
