Biography:
David “Drist” Dewitt grew up in Clinton. After leaving high school early, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in January 1965 where he found purpose and structure in his life. He served with the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines in Quang Nam Province. On September 3 while on a search and destroy mission near Da Nang, he was killed while walking point for his platoon. Private First Class Dewitt was buried in Oakland Cemetery in Clinton.
