Biography:
David Robert Goll graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in the class of 1967 and took classes at North Iowa Area Community College. He worked as a draftsman with the Iowa Mold Tool and Die Company before being drafted by the Army. SP5 Goll was sent to Vietnam in November 1969 and served as a Heavy Construction Equipment Operator in the Tay Ninh Province. On May 1, 1970 his base was hit by enemy rockets and mortars. SP5 Goll was struck by fragments and wounded in his chest and abdomen. He was moved to the 45th Evacuation Surgical Hospital near Tay Ninh where he died from his injuries on May 14. He was 21 years old at the time of his death and his body was buried at the Peace Reformed Cemetery in Garner.
