Biography:
Dean Alfred Jackson grew up in Morning Sun in Louisa County. After graduating from Morning Sun High School in 1961, he enlisted in the Army and served a tour in Germany. He returned to Fort Benning for specialist school and deployed to Vietnam with the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry in August 1965. He was killed on November 17th, 1965 during an assault at LZ Albany in the Ia Drang Valley. It was the first direct combat between American forces and North Vietnam regulars. Specialist 4th Class was married and was buried in Shadow Lawn Cemetery in LaGrange Georgia where his wife was living.
