Biography:
Dean William Oltman of Hampton, IA was born October 22, 1947. As a youth he purchased a Ford Edsel that he always kept in pristine condition. He was drafted into the Army and started his tour in June 1968. SP4 Oltman served with the 1st Infantry Division. He died on November 5, 1968, of a wound he received when a mortar round that was being launched hit a mortar round that was in his hand. His body was returned to Iowa and his funeral was held at the Williams-Van Hove Funeral Home in Latimer. SP4 Oltman left behind his wife, parents, a brother, and a sister. A family member described him as “full of life, full of beans always creating good-natured ruckus around him where ever he was.”
