Denis Duane Mattheis

Denis Mattheis grew up on a farm near Ruthven before moving to Cresco where he graduated from Crestwood High School in 1964. He joined the Army and began his tour in Vietnam in October 1966. He served with the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry, 101st Airborne. He was killed August 26, 1967 by hostile fire while on patrol near Chop Vum Hill in Quang Tin Province. Specialist 4 Mattheis was buried in the Oak lawn Cemetery in Cresco.
