Biography:
Dennis Craver grew up in Centerville, graduating from Centerville High School and attending Centerville Community College. He enlisted in the Army in March 1970 and went to NCO School in Fort Benning. His tour in Vietnam began in March 1971 with the 101st Airborne at Camp Evans near Hue, South Vietnam. He was assigned to Company D with the 506th Infantry at “Firebase Whipcord” which was regularly under NVA assault. He wrote that he had experienced almost daily combat from his arrival. Staff Sergeant Craver was killed by hostile fire on April 26, 1971. He was survived by a wife and son and was buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Centerville.
