Biography:
Dennis Reed Cain was raised in Council Bluffs where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Like many of his classmates, he enlisted in the Marine Corps. He arrived in Vietnam August 16, 1968 and served as a rifleman with the 2nd Battalion, 1st Marines based in Quang Nam Province. On October 22nd his defensive position was attacked with grenades, including a homemade conversion of C-ration container packed with explosives. PFC Cain died from fragmentation wounds. He was survived by his wife and was buried in Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Council Bluffs.
