Biography:
Dennis Walter Waterman was raised in rural Harrison County. He joined the Army in March 1965. After training, SP5 Waterman started his tour in Vietnam as a Heavy Construction Equipment Operator in January 1966. He was serving near An Khe in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam. On October 13, 1966 SP5 Waterman and another soldier were killed by enemy fire in a Quarry near An Khe. He died from a wound to the head. The 22-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Woodbine Cemetery in Harrison County.
