Biography:
Dick E Cuff graduated from Maxwell High School in the class of 1965. While in school he participated in several sports including football, track, and baseball. He then studied at Ellsworth Junior College and Mankato State College before he was drafted by the Army in April 1967. Cuff completed basic training at Fort Campbell, KY and completed infantry training at Fort Polk, LA. Before deploying to Vietnam SP4 Cuff completed jungle combat training in Hawaii. He arrived in Southeast Asia in December 1967 and was assigned to the Americal Division in the Quang Tin Province. SP4 Cuff was killed on March 20, 1968 during a firefight with the enemy near Duc Tho. The 20-year-old’s body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Maxwell Cemetery in Story County.
