Biography:
Don R Harger was born in Iowa and grew up in Madison County. He graduated from Truro High School in the class of 1957. After school he joined the Army and trained as a pilot. Warrant Officer (WO) Harger was married in 1963 to a New Jersey native. He went on to father two children. For a period in the early 1960s he was assigned to Lakehurst Naval Air Station in New Jersey. There his family made their home in Brick, NJ. After ten years of military service, WO Harger was sent to South Vietnam in July 1967 and he was assigned to the 1st Aviation Brigade. WO Harger was a crewmember aboard an aircraft that went down while returning to base at Pielku, South Vietnam, on August 17, 1967. He had been in Southeast Asia for just three weeks. A month later his remains were recovered and returned to the United States. His body was buried at the Maplewood Memorial Cemetery in Freehold, NJ. Herger was 28 years old at the time of his death.
