Biography:
Donald Eugene Scott was from Spencer. After attending Royal High School in Royal, IA, Scott enlisted in the Army. He began his tour of duty in South Vietnam in August 1969. He rose to the rank of Private First Class and served as an infantryman in the Fourth Infantry Division. On September 24, 1969, PFC Scott was killed when his weapon accidentally discharged while his unit was breaking camp. His death occurred just one week before his wife was expected to give birth to their second child. He was 20 years old at the time of his death. PFC Scott’s body was buried at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
