Biography:
Donald Fred Wood was raised in rural Woodbury County and graduated from Moorhead High School. He entered the Army in 1960 at the age of 20. In 1963 Wood became a full-time member of the Iowa National Guard’s 133rd Infantry Regiment. His unit was called to active duty and he was sent to Vietnam on May 6, 1969. Wood was killed in action on August 19, 1969 in Binh Duong, South Vietnam. 1LT Donald Wood was buried at Spring Valley Cemetery in Moorhead, IA.
