Biography:
Donald Leroy Jacobsen grew up in Ida Grove and graduated from high school in 1955. He enlisted in the Air Force and spent four years in airborne refueling. He attended Officer Training School for pilot training and in 1965 served with the 20th TAC Air Support Squadron. He flew 65 reconnaissance missions. He returned to Vietnam in 1966 to fly fixed wing observation planes out of Da Nang Air Base. On November 7, 1966 his plane was shot down over Long An Province. Captain Jacobsen was listed as “died while missing”. His remains were recovered. He was married with three children and was buried in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
