Biography:
Douglas C. Holland graduated from Anita High School in 1962 and enlisted in the Army. His tour in Vietnam began in May 1966 as an infantryman with the 173rd Airborne. He was scheduled to become an information specialist based on his writing and photography skills. Holland was working on a traveling exhibit of war photos for Iowa high schools that would explain the war. On April 9th, he made one last helicopter trip to get some additional photos. But the landing zone near Bien Hoa quickly became a combat zone and Holland left his camera to help the medics. He was killed instantly in the crossfire. Specialist 4th Class Holland was buried in the Oakwood memorial Park in Chatsworth California.
