Biography:
Douglas Hoffman grew up in Akron and Elk Point before moving to Sioux City in 1956 where he graduated from Central High School in 1967. He enlisted in the Army in April 1968 and in August joined the 23rd Infantry of the Americal Division in Vietnam. On January 20th, Sergeant Hoffman was working in a bunker when it caught fire, forcing him to run through the flames to escape. He suffered serious burns and was taken to Japan for treatment where he died on February 2nd. He was buried in Memorial Cemetery in Sioux City.
