Biography:
Duane Edward Limberg was raised in rural Woden and attended the Woden Christian Reformed Church. He was educated first at the Bingham Country School and then the Crystal Lake Community School where he graduated in the class of 1957. He continued his education at the Hamilton Business College in Mason City before going to work at the Farmers’ Cooperative in Britt. In 1960 he returned home to work on the family farm after his father passed away from illness. In May 1963 Limberg was drafted into the Army and completed training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO and Fort Benning, GA. PVT Limberg arrived in Vietnam on November 11, 1963 serving as an infantryman. He drowned 20 days later, on December 1, while swimming in a non-combat situation. His body was buried on a snowy afternoon in the Christian Reformed Church Cemetery in Woden.
