Biography:
Duane Kuehn was raised on a farm near Ionia in Chickasaw County and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in North Washington in 1965. He was known throughout the area and worked as a carpenter during the summers. He entered the Army in 1967 and his tour of duty in Vietnam started June 14, 1968. He served with the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry as a machine gunner. He was killed on September 15, 1968 by sniper fire during Operation Comanche Falls in an area south of Quang Tri. Private First Class was buried in St. Boniface Cemetery in Ionia after a widely attended funeral service.
