Biography:
Edward Joseph Drew II was born in 1943 and raised in Des Moines. He was drafted into the Army in 1967. PFC Drew started his tour in Vietnam on November 5, 1967 as part of the 196th Infantry Brigade, Americal Division as an infantryman. On January 6, 1968, during a night ambush operation, PFC Drew’s unit engaged enemy forces outside of Hiep Duc Village. He was killed by fragmentation wounds received during the fire-fight. Ten other American soldiers were killed during the skirmish. PFC Drew was 24 years old at the time of his death and left behind a wife and daughter. His body was buried at the Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
