Biography:
Edward Thomas Cooper was raised in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Jefferson High School. Cooper was drafted into the Army in May 1968 and was sent to Vietnam that October. In December Thomas and his brother Arch Cooper had a chance reunion while both brothers served in Vietnam. Arch was wounded three times before completing his tour. PFC Edward Cooper was serving as an infantryman with the 4th Infantry Division northwest of Pleiku in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. On March 11, 1969 PFC Cooper went missing during combat with enemy forces. Four days later his body was found. He was killed by wounds to the leg and chest. His body was returned to Iowa and buried at the Shueyville Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
