Biography:
Edward W. Strain was born in Chicago and later moved to Story City. He was enlisted in the Navy for more than four years prior to joining the Air Force in December 1966. Staff Sergeant Strain was stationed in Thailand where he served as a news programmer at the Udorn radio station. On April 10, 1970 an Air Force reconnaissance plane was hit by hostile fire causing it to crash into the Udorn radio station. SSGT Strain was working at the radio station at the time of the crash and was killed in the incident. A funeral service was held at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Story City and his body was buried at Story City Cemetery.
