Ellas Louis Mihalakis

Ellas Louis Mihalakis, a native of Dubuque, was drafted into the Army. He served as an infantryman with the Americal Division when he deployed to Vietnam in October 1967. SGT Mihalakis was killed on July 9, 1968 while on a patrol southeast of Tam Ky Airfield. He was fatally wounded by fragmentation wounds sustained from enemy mortar shells. He was killed 11 days shy of his 21st birthday. A funeral was held at the Saint Elias the Prophet Church and his body was buried at the Linwood Cemetery, both in Dubuque.
