Biography:
Francis E. Glazebrook Jr. was raised in Marion County and graduated from Bussey High School in the class of 1964. Glazebrook was drafted by the Army. After completing his training he arrived in South Vietnam in October 1966. PFC Glazebrook served as a door gunner in a UH-1H Huey helicopter while assigned to the 15th Medical Battalion in the 1st Cavalry Division. Eleven months into his tour PFC Glazebrook was killed in a helicopter crash. On the night of September 8, 1967, while on a medivac operation, the chopper’s engine malfunctioned and the craft hit a tree. All four crewmen and their passenger were killed in the accident. Glazebrook was posthumously promoted to Sergeant. He was 21 years old, married, and the father of a daughter at the time of his death. His remains were returned to Iowa and buried at the Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville.
