Biography:
Frank Lynn Staton of Winthrop was a graduate of West Delaware High School in the class of 1967. He enjoyed boxing and was an Iowa Golden Gloves champion from 1967 to 1969. After graduation Staton received training in radio broadcasting in Independence and was employed by Triangle Plastics, Inc. in Winthrop. He was drafted into the Army and began his tour in Vietnam in December 1969 after completing training at Fort Polk, LA. He was killed two months later after encountering enemy mortar fire on a base camp in Hau Nghia Province. A funeral service for the 20-year-old was held at the United Methodist Church and his body was buried at Fairview Cemetery, both located in Winthrop. He left behind a wife.
